Galeshwar, July 14 – Due to the infection of Covid-19, which has spread like a global epidemic, the daily life of the poor is becoming chaotic. Even though the local level and various organizations have been providing assistance to the unemployed and laborers who have become unemployed in their own home villages, the profession of the Gandharvas who make a living by carrying the sarangi and singing duli songs is in crisis.

The food of the Gandharva community, who used to sing songs of happiness and sorrow, has also been snatched.

Som Bahadur Gandharva, who had migrated from Phaparkhet in Beni Municipality-2 of Myagdi to Balewa of Sari Baglung and returned to his hometown, used to play the sarangi and sing in the evenings.

However, his diary has become uneasy since the ban was issued due to the second wave of Corona infection with the new variant. Gandharva, who started singing in the villages of different districts in 2030 BS at the age of 20, says that he has no children to support himself.

Despite major political changes in the country, he regrets that his situation is the same as it was four decades ago. He also said that some Gandharvas have been displaced from their ancestral profession due to lack of food and shelter.

One day, a Nepali girl was sold in a house in Mumbai, Gorakhpur and Kolkata, India, and her mother-in-law hurt her daughter-in-law.

He said that Gandharva was forced to change his profession due to poverty.

Bed Prasad Upadhyaya, 86, of Bagarphat, said, “It has been a long time since I have listened to the music of Gandharva.

With the access to information and communication, the influence of western songs and music is increasing even in the rural areas.
