Kathmandu, July 22 – The Ministry of Health and Population said the corona infection rate had risen again in a week after the ban was relaxed. The ministry said in a statement that a “challenging third wave” was about to begin and urged health facilities to be on high alert.

Stating that public health standards are being violated secretly or openly after the ban was lifted, the ministry said the corona infection had not decreased as much as it should during this period.

Even now, there are more than 500 active infections in 10 districts and more than 200 active infections in 26 districts, the Ministry of Health said, adding that the risk of infection is still increasing. According to Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, Assistant Spokesperson of the Ministry, the crowds at the vaccination centers have also increased the risk of infection. Therefore, the ministry has urged the people to take their turn and adopt public health standards when going for vaccination.

“We urge all health facilities to keep their infrastructures and services in good condition, including oxygen and bedding, in anticipation of a challenging third wave of growing infections,” the ministry said.
