Kathmandu, August 4 – Indian wrestlers Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia have reached the semifinals of their respective events under the Tokyo Olympics. Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia reached the semifinals in the 57 kg and 86 kg weight categories respectively. Ravi defeated Pahlaman of Bulgaria while Deepak defeated Pahlaman of China.
Wrestling in the Olympics has always been special for India. India has won five medals in wrestling in the past. It has won one medal or another in each edition since 2008. KD Javadh won medals in wrestling in 1952, Sushil Kumar in 2008 and 2012, Yogeshwar Dutt in 2012 and Sakshi Malik in 2016.
