Vice Chancellor of Midwestern University P.D. Demand for dismissal of Nanda Bahadur Singh

Surkhet, August 11 – Vice Chancellor of Midwestern University P.D. They have demanded the dismissal of Nanda Bahadur Singh. The agitating student organizations are demanding the dismissal of Vice-Chancellor Singh saying that he has resorted to hooliganism and failed to maintain his dignity.

The Central Committee of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union (Krantikari) has demanded the dismissal of Vice Chancellor Singh over the incident that took place at the university on Tuesday evening. In a statement signed by the Central Committee Chairperson Ranjit Tamang, the leaders of the peaceful agitating student organization demanding 18 points at the university have been accused of beating the student leaders under the direct direction of Vice Chancellor Nanda Bahadur Singh.

Instead of resolving the students’ demands through talks and discussions, the administration has shown irresponsibility by using police and mercenaries, the organization said. Various other student organizations are also demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor. The Midwestern University Committee of the Nepal National Professors’ Association has also demanded his resignation saying that he had made a statement against the law and dignity of the post.

The United Students’ Organization (USO) has been agitating at the university since July 16 demanding 18 points. Immediately, even the professors joined the movement.

Students’ organizations and professors have been accusing the vice-chancellor of not working properly and failing to maintain his position. Due to the agitation, the examination scheduled for July 26 has not been conducted. Stakeholders say that the future of hundreds of students is being jeopardized due to which.

Former Dean of the University, Pitamber Dhakal, says that the demands of the students should be resolved through discussion as soon as possible. Although the university said that discussions and negotiations are underway, no agreement has been reached.

Audio controversy

An audio recording of Vice-Chancellor Nanda Bahadur Singh said, “Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba may be considered the patriarch in parliamentary language, but my real patriarch is KP Oli.” As the UML party, KP Oli and the people’s multi-party democracy are important, it is necessary to take it among the people and there is no alternative to take to the streets for this.

The professors’ union has demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor saying that he had called the party cadres to the office forgetting the dignity of the post and giving political statement against the law, rules and constitution of the university. However, VC Singh defended the audio at a press conference. He said that an element was being used against him by interrupting what he had said for an hour.

What exactly happened on Tuesday evening?

The United Students’ Organization (USO), which has been active in the movement since July 16, had started a relay strike demanding various 18-point demands including taking online exams. Meanwhile, the university campus became very tense on Tuesday evening. Regarding this issue, the Nepali Congress and the students’ organization close to the CPN-Maoist have demanded the dismissal of the Vice-Chancellor saying that he was involved in ‘hooliganism’.

They have also warned of strong and forceful programs including social boycott of Vice-Chancellor Singh.
The United Students’ Organization (USO) has also issued a press release stating that the students will join the movement again against the dictatorial tendency of VC.
The organization also said that the vice-chancellor had mobilized thugs to attack the protesting students with sharp weapons and vandalized the protest site.

Nevisangha leader Zak Bahadur Shahi said that additional agitation programs would be decided.

‘Chaotic mob pelted stones’

Meanwhile, the university administration said that an anarchist mob pelted stones at the venue while an interaction program was going on between the stakeholders at around 5 pm on Tuesday.

“The vehicle of the vice-chancellor parked in a private house near the venue has been vandalized by throwing stones at it,” said Prof. Dr. Narayan Prasad Poudel, registrar of the university.

He also said that a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence was attacked with a banjo. The university administration has condemned the incident and demanded action against the group involved in indecent and chaotic activities.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Professors Association and the Nepal National Teachers Association have also announced programs of a 10-point movement against the university.
