Army chief Sharma leaves for Lebanon

Chief of the Nepali Army Staff (CoAS), Prabhu Ram Sharma, has left for Lebanon today in a bid to boost morale of Nepali peacekeepers in the war-hit countries, it has been said.
Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Bal Krishna Karki bade a farewell to a seven-member Army team led by Sharma at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
The team is scheduled to take stock of the situation and operational activities of the Nepali peacekeepers in war-hit Lebanon and Syria. The Nepali Army personnel have been deployed to the countries for peacekeeping at the call of the United Nations.
During the visit that would get on until June 24, the Army chief will meet with high ranking officials of the UN mission in the countries, according to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Nepali Army. Beforehand, a guard of honour was offered to the Army chief at the Army headquarters on Friday.
Following this, CoAS Sharma is scheduled to visit the United States of America from June 27 to July 1 at an official invitation. He will return home on July 3.
A five-member delegation will involve in the visit. In the absence of the Army chief, LTG Karki has been assigned to serve as acting CoAS.
