Hero Gold Cup 2019: Nepal trounce Iran 3-0

Kathmandu, Feb 13 – Nepal has defeated Iran by 3-0 in the match held under the Women’s football Hero Gold Cup 2019 in Bhubhaneswar in the State of Odisha of India today.

Anita Basnet opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a thumping volley from a tight angle. The second goal game in the second half from none other than Nepal’s ace strike Sabitra Bhandari in the 59th minute, taping in the empty net after beating the offside trap and the goalkeeper. This was Bhandari’s third goal in the tournament.
Bhandari added another in the 89th minute scoring from a distance to take the game beyond Iran, and Nepal closer to the final.

Nepal has made a very good comeback after being trounced 3-0 by Myanmar in the first match. Nepal got better of hosts India by 2-1, both goals scored by Sabitra Bhandari.
Nepal has six points, similar to Myanmar. India has three points and the game between Myanmar and India later this evening will decide the two finalists. If Myanmar wins, Nepal go through and if India wins, the goal difference will come into play with all three countries tied at six points each. Iran lost all its three matches in the tournament participated by four countries.
