Kathmandu, Aug 25-The Education and Health Committee of the parliament has instructed the government to provide result of PCR test within 24 hours.

Committee members during the virtual meeting held on Tuesday pointed that people are suffering as they have to wait for up to 13 days to get result. Committee Chairman Jaypuri Gharti instructed the government to provide the report through phone, e-mail, or other means of communication within 24 hours of collecting the sample as some patients risk losing their life while waiting for COVID-19 report.

It has also instructed the government to expand the scope of PCR testing advising that one person from each family should be tested. It has similarly advised the government to increase isolation centers pointing that home isolation is possible only for affluent people with a big house, and dangerous for those living in a single room or even flat.

It has, meanwhile, advised the government to immediately mobilize 1,000 students who have just passed MBBS if there is scarcity of health personnel. “We have around 1,000 who have just completed MBBS. They should be mobilized immediately without considering any law or rule as doing so can cost lives. These human resources should be mobilized,” Gharti stressed.

It has also urged the government to use volunteers in management of quarantine and isolation facilities, and make preparations to acquire COVID-19 vaccines.
