Kathmandu, August 11 – Kulman Ghising, who has been re-appointed as the executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority, reached the authority on Wednesday. He was welcomed by the staff of NEA. Ghising took office on Wednesday.

The cabinet meeting held on Monday appointed Ghising as the executive director of NEA.

The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli did not agree to reappoint Ghising, who played a leading role in eliminating load shedding in Nepal. After he said that the process should be completed, the appointment proposal that reached the cabinet could not be discussed.

However, as soon as the new government was formed, an agreement was reached between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Minister for Energy, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal. According to a ministry source, the current leadership of NEA has not been able to move ahead with many projects started during Ghising’s previous tenure and the NEA has agreed to give Ghising another chance.

On July 3, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal had requested the current Executive Director of NEA, Shakya, to resign. She said that the government would give appropriate responsibility to Shakya and asked her to leave the authority.

Accordingly, Ghising has been made the executive director and the current executive director of NEA, Shakya, has been appointed as a full-time member of the Water and Energy Commission. For that, the constitution order of the commission has also been amended.

The government has decided to give the responsibility without reducing the salary facility that Shakya is getting in NEA now. The Ministry of Finance has also given its consent for this.
