Transport entrepreneurs halt cargo along Araniko Highway

Kavrepalanchok – Transport entrepreneurs have halted freights along the Araniko, B.P. and Helambu Highways to protest the direction by the district administration office to mandatorily get the loads they carry weighed.

The office directed in this regard in a meeting between transport entrepreneurs and stakeholders on last Tuesday following a circular by the Ministry of Home Affairs to operate load weighing centres in the district.
Load weighing centres have been established at Keraghari in Panchkhal Municipality, Naikintar in Panauti and Bhakunde in Namobuddha.

According to the guidelines, more than six wheeled-cargo vehicles must carry a mandatory load. Rs 150 is charged per vehicle for weighing load at the load weighing centre. Freights have come to a halt for the past two days.
Following the protest, police personnel in a large group have been deployed at all load weighing centres, said Superintendent of Police Bhagya Purush Dhakal.
