Kathmandu, July 19 – Experts have warned that the corona infection could spread rapidly in Bangladesh after the removal of the lockdown for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

“Right now, there is a shortage of hospital beds and ICUs and the pressure on our health workers has increased,” said Bay Nazir Ahmed, a former head of Bangladesh’s health directorate. So if the situation worsens now, more infected people will come to the hospital. In that case, it would be impossible to control the crisis. ”

Most services in Bangladesh were shut down on July 1 following the outbreak of the corona infection. The Bangladeshi government had mobilized police and army to enforce the lockdown, and more than a thousand people had been arrested for violating the rules. As the lockdown continued, about 200 people were dying daily in Bangladesh, and the number of new infections was around 11,000.

However, despite warnings from experts, the government decided to remove the lockdown to celebrate the festival from July 15 to 23. However, the government said in a statement that people were required to wear masks and strictly adhere to health standards.

Experts warn that this could be a major factor in the spread of corona infection. An estimated 30 to 40 million people are expected to gather at the mosque for prayers during Eid al-Adha on Wednesday.

According to Ahmed, the month after the festival could be very critical for Bangladesh. About 1.1 million corona infections have been found in Bangladesh so far and about 18,000 people have died due to the infection.

Ahmed , “Now maybe we can’t stop the catastrophic situation from happening.”
