The death toll from floods and landslides in India has risen to 124

India, July 25 – The death toll from floods and landslides caused by heavy monsoon rains in India has risen to 124 on Sunday, Indian officials have confirmed. Rescue workers are said to be working to find dozens more missing.

Heavy rains have lashed western India since Thursday. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of more rains in the next few days. At least 40 people have been killed and 114 others injured in a landslide in the hilly village of Talya, south of Mumbai in Maharashtra state on Thursday.

The landslide killed more than a dozen people and left at least 99 missing. In some parts of Chiplun, after 24 hours of continuous rain on Thursday, the water level reached 20 feet (six meters) and flooded roads and houses, according to local media. Eight patients at a hospital treating Covid-19 died when power supply was disrupted due to flooding after the rains.

He was treated with a ventilator but died after the power supply was cut off.
