Kathmandu, July 29 – The Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) has understood the views of stakeholders on how to run schools and universities.

On Thursday, CCMC and stakeholders discussed on how to run an educational institution. During the discussion, stakeholders should not make centralized decisions, but should allow the opening of local level schools with low risk and low number of students, said CCMC spokesperson Nur Prasad Khatiwada.

Most of the participants stressed on the need for decentralized decision making as schools and universities have been closed for a long time and the students and the state are at a loss.

Khatiwada said that discussions with the people related to education would facilitate the decision-making process at the local level for the smooth running of the educational institution.

Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ram Prasad Thapaliya, said that although schools with fewer students could be considered, schools with more students could not be allowed to open immediately.

President of the Federation of Nepali Parents, Suprabhat Bhandari, said that it would be appropriate to conduct the examination only after vaccinating the teachers and students.

During the discussion, the participants suggested that schools should be allowed to open in areas with less than 100 students, low risk areas, and that vaccinations should be provided to older students and teachers. He also said that the federal government should set standards to regulate learning.
