Gulmi, August 3 – Recently, there has been a growing interest in commercial buffalo breeding in Gulmi. As the price and demand of buffalo milk has also increased, the attraction of farmers towards it has started increasing.
Netra Bahadur Basnet of Resunga Municipality-12 has been earning a decent income from buffalo farming in the village. While the number of youths going abroad in search of employment is increasing, Basnet has become an example by running a buffalo breeding business in the village.
Basnet, who initially raised boiler chickens, now raises 12 dairy buffaloes and four cows. He says that he earns Rs. 60,000-70,000 a month just by selling buffalo milk products. A buffalo gives at least five liters of milk daily.
His farm produces 80 liters of milk daily. He said that he used to sell the milk at the Tamghas market.
The price of buffalo milk is Rs 90 per liter and the demand is high in the market. Basnet, who started commercial buffalo breeding with a small investment, said that he is thinking of moving ahead by organizing the business. At present, 6 people are employed in his farm.
The government has been bringing various concessions and subsidy programs to the farmers engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. But Basnet complained that he had not yet received the concessions and grants.
