Kathmandu, August 1 – All government transactions of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, which used to be done through private banks, will now be done through Rastriya Banijya Bank. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, its implementation has already started.

During the meeting of the Federal Parliament, the members repeatedly raised the issue of running government accounts through private banks and also in other public programs and media.

However, no progress was made in this regard. After the issue was raised in the Parliament and other media, as per the Speaker’s directive, the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament had written to the Ministry of Finance on December 3, 2008 to change the government-run bank to a fully state-owned bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank.

In that context, the Ministry of Finance had sent a letter dated 11 January 2077 stating that it would be difficult to change the account in the middle of the fiscal year. The secretariat had again requested for the change of account on July 13, 2008.

Following this initiative of the Speaker, the Ministry of Finance has recently directed the Nepal Rastra Bank and the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General to operate the government accounts of all the offices at Singha Durbar through the state-owned Rastriya Banijya Bank. Similarly, Rastriya Banijya Bank has also been requested to upgrade the Singha Durbar branch and expand its service facilities. Earlier, government accounts were operated through Everest Bank.
